Leadgate
Sometimes we revisit places that mean the most
To remember special times and people with a special toast
A trilby ,my Dads hat of choice often comes to mind
His polished shoes to compliment making his way to Leadgate club ,I remind
Leadgate school so vivid in my past
I thought those days forever would last
Bradley chapel lovely place lovely people
Unlike St Ives church it didn’t have a steeple
Little familiar shops like Bests the butchers, and mr Jeffrey’s the cobbler
All the little pubs like Masons and Wheatsheaf and Back of the Shaft where you had a wobbler!!
The Roxy bingo where with my Mam And Aunty LIzzie I’d wander
It was a social gathering, not just somewhere to squander
Sprys pond the playground of my youth
Making swings climbing trees making dams how unladylike and uncouth !!
Going to Pont woods walking with my Dad and dog
Looking at plants and fauna and even under a log
Visiting my Nannas at her little pit bungalow
Allowing me to play and allowing me to grow
Calling at my Aunts and having cake
Always knitting me mittens and cardigans for goodness sake
Playing with cousins and friends in the usual ways
Oh the joy of those happy days
So many things I remember of my lovely old village
I thought I’d share my personal spillage
Leadgate you are a big part of my past
This I know will always last
